What is Prostate Cancer?
Prostate cancer is a malignancy that occurs in the prostate gland. Some doctors believe that prostate cancer begins with very small changes in the size and shape of the prostate gland cells. These changes are known as PIN (prostatic intraepithelial neoplasia). Nearly half of all people who have a PIN after the age of 50 years. People who have a PIN to change appearance of prostate gland cells on the microscope. These changes can be either low-level (almost normal) or high-grade (abnormal).

If you already have a prostate biopsy that showed high-grade PIN, there is a greater likelihood there are cancer cells in your prostate. For this reason, you need to watch carefully and may need to do another biopsy.
